Other School Projects We Work With

Hall High School

Anthony Wasley, an old friend, started a similar project to what we have at E.O. Smith, over at Hall High School in West Hartford.  They currently have a 90 gallon mixed reef with a number of different fish and coral species.  Anthony is passionate about saving the oceans and had been working with his students to involve them in coral propagation, making them a very similar project to our own!  We have been working with our sister project at Hall for a few years now, sending gear and corals their way and even sharing a tank with them at a few shows!

Take a look at Anthony's program here!

Marine Science Magnet School

Mike Guyot, who worked on the E.O. Smith Coral Project as a student when it first started out, and Eric Litvinoff are working on growing corals and other marine organisms down at the Marine Science Magnet School in Groton Connecticut.  It has been a pleasure to add them to the schools that are working on these projects!

Williams College

Dr. Tim Pusack is in the process of starting a coral propagation program at Williams College in Mystic, CT where he teaches.  He is still in the process of getting things together but is hoping to be up and running soon!

Norwich Free Academy

Ryan Czaja runs an aquarium science program at Norwich Free Academy in Norwich, CT aimed at teaching students about aquariums and aquaculture.  Beyond just having a club, NFA students recieve credits for their coursework in a variety of aquarium related classes.   Between two classrooms, Ryan and his students maintain  46 aquariums ranging from 10 to 500 gallons, housing both fresh and salt water species.

Natchaug Elementary

Charles Grillo started a reef tank at Natchaug Elementary School in the spring of 2018.  They have a 75 gallon reef tank in one of the classrooms with a variety of fish and corals.  The E.O. Smith Coral Project has helped them to get going with donations of both gear and corals.

Crossett Brook Middle School

Scott Benson, with a little help from Matt Spaulding, of Green Mountain Corals, was able to set up a small reef in their 5th grade classroom to teach the kids about corals and conservation.  We helped them out by sending up a skimmer for the tank and some circulation pumps to get them going.
